JOSEPH@HULL NEW THEATRE

The stage was used very differently to the Jane Eyre performance I saw on 21st September. X Factor winner Joe belted out the show tunes in his unique and colourfully camp style in gold trousers that highlighted his bottom. I went along with the Hull & East Riding Social Club. That’s the thing about City of Culture. It’s encouraged people to get out more and enjoy what Hull has to offer culturally with other like-minded people. Including me.

Joyce, who lives in Hull but is originally from Aberdeen, kept me company during the interval when my foot was too sore to get an ice cream.

Craig was playing musical chairs. James told me all about being into architecture and attending the events related to that at Hull College recently. Someone who will remain nameless spilt my drink. Now if there had of been vodka in there I would not have kept a smile on my face…

Jane Eyre was heavy on the sole. Joseph was two hours of fun. With an Elvis Presley twist. Elvis naturally stole the show.

Dancing. Singing. Funny stage props like the lifeless sheep. There was a campness to it all which made religion more inviting. Just wish Joseph could dream 7 years of wealth for me. I will have to rely on Bitcoin investments instead.

I heard some people leaving from an earlier performance saying they did not think the cast was big enough and were underwhelmed. But I don’t see how you would have got anyone else on the stage it was packed as it was.

The moving stairs gave testament to why the venue needed to be updated, to make it accessible for modern day props and lighting.

Everyone was on their feet at the end including me. Much more enjoyable than last time when my elusive US friend Tony Yaseen never appeared for his birthday treat. Looking forward to future events at Hull New Theatre.
