BBC's Big Weekend is next week, so being middle aged I am heading off with my Mum Mary to explore the best seaside resorts in East Yorkshire...Bridlington and Scarborough. She came down from Welbourne today, so we are resting up here before our seaside adventure commences. Meanwhile my daughter Chloe is in Manchester at a gig headed by Peripherary.
I am writing this sat in room 501 of The Humber Bridge Country Hotel. The hotel is just over the Humber Bridge in Lincolnshire. An alternative to staying in the city centre when you are taking in cultural events in Hull. We dined overlooking lakes in a candle lit Italian themed room.A varied and reasonably priced menu was on offer. The more energetic can walk right through the surrounding nature reserve over the bridge and be in Yorkshire in no time.
Look out for the parrot in the bar and me eating creme teas and trying out ambient areas such as a sofa near a hearth with China cats. David the waiter is an inspiration he has epilepsy but was on shift from afternoon till bedtime and nothing was any trouble for him. There is a Gentleman's Afternoon Tea with a twist on Father's Day next month on 18th June with a pint of guest ale on offer. You have to book in advance though on 01652 638250. On Saturday 1st July is the Gatsby and Casino Summer Ball, £35 a head. There will be a buffet and live entertainment. I live in Barton there is a lot here for a small town and it is only a twenty minute drive to the centre of Hull from the Hotel. This hotel is a hidden jewel.
